Pundit: Hindus should boycott Maha Sabha Indian Arrival Day events

A pundit is calling on Hindus to boycott the upcoming Maha Sabha Indian Arrival Day celebrations, in light of statements made by its General Secretary Sat Maharaj.

Pundit Satyanand Maharaj said it is time for Hindus to send a message to Sat Maharaj, who he said has embarrassed the Hindu community enough.

“Sending children to march supports Sat's call to ban Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as it does support child marriage. This is a call to boycott Sat's Maha Sabha and let him know that he has embarrassed the Hindu Community enough. That we will no longer follow a leader who has lost his way. Sat's time has passed and spewing the seeds of hatred, bigotry and naked nepotism will not be tolerated. Stand up now,” the pundit said.

Pundit Maharaj’s comment comes after the General Secretary of the Maha Sabha said Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar was uninvited from its Indian Arrival Day celebrations over statements she made regarding the Nafisah Nakhid hijab issue.

The Opposition Leader publicly announced her decision to stand behind Nakhid, the on-the-job (OJT) trainee who was asked to leave the compound of the Lakshmi Girls' Hindu College earlier this week because of her hijab. The school is operated by the Maha Sabha.

In a statement, the pundit said the crude and loutish rant of Sat Maharaj on Friday via the Maha Sabha media Radio/TV Jaagriti only underscores the issues surrounding the hijab.

“The vicious attack of Sat on the Leader of the Opposition and the rescinding of the Indian Arrival Day event is the response of a petulant delusional child. It is incumbent on the Hindu community to send an unmistakable message to the Maha Sabha that the position of Sat Maharaj is unacceptable. Therefore, all right thinking Hindus should boycott the Maha Sabha Indian Arrival Day celebrations,” Pundit Maharaj said.

The General Secretary of the Maha Sabha also made a political call to Hindus, advising them that they no longer have to vote along ethnic lines.

This as he declared that the Opposition Leader “will pay hell of a price.”

The Opposition Leader is yet to respond.
