Ramdial calls for transparency in Sandals deal
Couva North MP Ramona Ramdial is calling for transparency in the negotiation process as talks continue between Government and Sandals International on the Sandals Tobago project.
Her call comes as the Prime Minister met on Thursday with Sandals International to continue talks on the deal.
In a statement, Ramdial said citizens have been kept in the dark for nearly three years as to the terms and conditions of this ongoing deal.
She knocked Government's defence of details not being provided on the deal.
"The defence from government that the deal has not been concluded so no information is necessary is really setting the stage to assume underhanded dealings."
The Couva North MP said citizens deserve a transparent and accountable process as billions of taxpayers’ dollars are to be invested.
She said the people of Trinidad and Tobago want to know what concessions are Sandals International asking for to set up in Tobago, the role of the THA in the project, what requests for tax breaks have been made, the risks involved in this business venture.
Ramdial called on the Prime Minister to give a detailed account of the ongoing negotiations between Sandals International and the Government following a tour of the proposed sites on Thursday.
