The Trinbago Knight Riders secured a top-two finish in the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League when they beat the Barbados Tridents by nine runs in Port of Spain on Friday night.

The result means the Knight Riders will be among the top pair of teams in the tournament  which will square off for a place in the finals in Qualifier 1 at Providence on September 11th.

Denesh Ramdin top-scored for the Knight Riders with 51 off 31 balls after Colin Munro (28) and Chris Lynn (29) had put on 35 for the opening partnership.

Dwayne Bravo came in with his team struggling at 124-4 with six overs to go and scored 33 off 20 balls to lift their aggregate to 180-5 in their 20 overs.

Fawad Ahmed took 3-29 but the Tridents looked set to register their first win in six matches, with Nicholas Pooran well set, but his run out by Bravo for 44 off the last ball of the 17th over was disastrous.

After Jason Holder fell for 21 seven balls later, the pair of Roston Chase (14) and Shamar Springer (12) could not clinch the victory for the Tridents.

The Tridents lost their 7th game in a row and finished last in the six team table for the 2018 season.

Summarized scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 180 for 5 (Ramdin 51, Imran Khan 2-25) beat Barbados Tridents 171 for 5 (Pooran 44, Fawad 3-28) by nine runs
