Rape-accused gets bail
The 23-year-old man who was held in connection with allegations of rape by a woman who he met on Facebook has been granted bail at $50,000.
The accused, Sheldon McIntosh, a labourer from Maraj Trace, Chaguanas, appeared on Tuesday before senior magistrate Jo-Anne Connor in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ First court.
He was charged by WPC Alicia Joseph of the Central Division CID.
Defence attorney Taradath Singh represented McIntosh.
The charge was laid indictably and the accused was not called upon to enter a plea.
After submissions to the court, the matter was adjourned to December 4.
The incident reportedly took place on October 31, at Maraj Street, Chaguanas.
According to police reports, the victim, a 22-year-old woman, from Morvant, was communicating with a man she added on social media three weeks ago. The man reportedly invited her to a boat cruise and invited her to an apartment on Maraj Street to collect the tickets.
The woman said she arrived at the location at about 1:30 pm that day, however, she was taken into a room where she was sexually assaulted.
The man then left her.
She said she immediately went back home and made a report to the Morvant Police.
