Rape suspect shot in Couva

A man who was wanted for murder, kidnapping, and even rape, was shot Tuesday morning during a confrontation with police.
The incident reportedly took place around 10:45 am in Couva.
According to police reports, officers of the Central Division Task Force received information of a robbery along Sonny Ladoo Road, Couva.
The officers were given a description of the suspects, as well as the vehicle they used to escape – a silver Nissan Tiida – and made their way to the location.
While proceeding along Mabaica Road, Couva, they observed a vehicle one occupant matching the descriptions given.
The vehicle was intercepted and the driver of the car exited with what appeared to be a firearm.
The responding officers challenged the assailant and shot at him.
The man dropped the weapon and attempted to flee the scene but he was apprehended a short distance away.
The suspect appeared to have suffered a gunshot injury to his left knee during the confrontation.
A weapon loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition was found and seized on the scene.
The suspect, said to be a priority offender from San Fernando, was taken to the Chaguanas District Hospital where he remained warded up to 2 pm today (Tuesday).
