Updated: RBL Westmall to remain closed on Friday after COVID-19 scare
Update @ 3.10 pm
The Republic Bank branch at the Falls at Westmall will remain closed on July 24.
The branch was closed on Thursday after the daughter of a staff member at the Westmall location tested positive for COVID-19.
The bank said the two-day closure will allow for thorough sanitisation of the premises.
The bank in an advisory on Thursday afternoon confirmed that the child and parent visited the branch on July 10.
The test on the child returned a positive result on Wednesday. She is currently being treated at the Caura Hospital.
RBL said the risk to clients is low as neither the child nor the parent was in contact with the branch’s client base.
RBL, under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, activated its infection control measures, including the identification, testing and recommended quarantine of all staff members who were in contact with the child.
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh at a special virtual media briefing earlier on Thursday indicated that the child was in close contact with at least 11 RBL employees.
Republic Bank assured that it will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Health and the relevant authorities to ensure that there is no risk to staff and clients.
It added that its previously implemented in-branch safety protocols will remain in effect.
This case is the second to be confirmed in a 48-hour period that is pending epidemiological investigation.
Neither case has been linked to a history of recent travel. Health officials are still working to determine how the patients contracted COVID-19.
Update @ 11 am:
The child of an employee at the Republic Bank Westmall branch has tested positive for COVID-19.
The branch has been closed for the day and all infection control measures are underway including sanitisation.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh at a special virtual media briefing on Thursday gave an update on the country's 141st case.
He said the minor had close contact with around 11 Republic Bank employees.
All employees have been sent home and will be swabbed.
The child has no history of recent travel and health officials are still working to determine how she contracted the illness.
The West Mall branch of Republic Bank is closed for today, July 23.
In an advisory today, Republic Bank indicated the closure was only for today.
No reason was given for the temporary closure, but clients have been encouraged to make use of the Bank’s electronic channels including the RepublicMobile App, RepublicOnline, Cardless Cash, Republic Mobile SMS and ATM services to conduct their banking business.
Clients can also conduct transactions at Republic Bank’s nearby branches at Long Circular Mall, Glencoe, Starlite Shopping Plaza and Ellerslie Court.
