Renegades looks for hat trick with Skinny Banton's 'Wrong Again'
For Panorama 2020, reigning champs BP Renegades hopes to complete its second hat trick with the final installment of its love story.
The band revealed on Tuesday that its song of choice this year will be Skinny Banton’s ‘Wrong Again’, a popular tune about horning.
In 2018, BP Renegades won the Large Band Category of Panorama with Voice’s ‘Year for Love’ and retained its title in 2019 with Farmer Nappy’s ‘Hooking Meh’ which even featured a mock wedding of arranger Duvone Stewart.
Now in 2020, it seems that the love affair has gone awry with ‘Wrong Again’.
Renegades created history when it completed a hat trick in 1995, 1996, and 1997 under late arranger Jit Samaroo and with Stewart is looking to repeat that glory for the band again.
The competition to break Renegades' hold on the title, however, will be fierce this year.
Len ‘Boogsie’ Sharpe, the legendary arranger for the band Phase II Pan Groove, said in a bid to return his band to its winning ways he is going with an original competition. In the past two years Phase II played popular soca compositions like Kes the Band’s ‘Hello’ in 2018 and Swappi’s ‘Party Start’ last year.
His composition ‘Vision’ is sung by Olatunji Yearwood.
Former champs Desperadoes will be playing ‘More Sokah’ by Nailah Blackman.
Many of the other bands Loop contacted have not yet selected their choice of song.
Panyard judging for the preliminaries will begin on February 2.
