Restaurant owner robbed, beaten at home

The 67-year-old owner of the Golden Palace Restaurant in Marabella was tied up and severely beaten during a robbery on Monday.

The incident took place around 10:45 pm at the victim’s home at Gulf Drive, Bel Air, La Romaine.

Police were told the victim drove into his yard in his Toyota Hilux, however, upon exiting the vehicle, he was confronted by three armed men.

The men proceeded to beat the 67-year-old man about his body and announced a hold up.

They then tied him up and proceeded to rob the man of his cash and valuables, including a safe in which he kept US $3000 and $CAD $1000.

Over TT $100,000 in items were stolen.

The assailants also robbed the man of his licensed firearm-a Sig Sauer pistol.

The men then fled the scene.

The victim released himself and notified the police.

A party of officers, including Cpl Burke, PC Nandoo and PC Suliman visited the scene.

The businessman was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated.

His injuries are not life threatening.
