Revolt Music Conference offers discount to Caribbean participants

Any artist or creative in the Caribbean entertainment industry wishing to attend the Revolt Music Conference in Miami can get a 20 percent discount on any package.

Carla Parris, an Entertainment and Sports Attorney based in Trinidad and Tobago, said the discount was offered after she contacted the organisers to appeal for them to make the conference more accessible to those in the Caribbean.

Parris attended the conference last year and realised that she was the only Trinidadian at the event and one of less than a handful of Caribbean people.

Parris said she went out of a desire and need to learn more about deal asking in the US music industry and to try to open doors for Caribbean talent.

"This has always been one of my main passions, trying to open doors for us," she said.

She said the conference was particularly exciting as she was able to see the evolution of artists like Cardi B, an Instagram star turned reality TV star, who was on one of the panels on social media and branding.

"I think that networking and collaboration is the only way to achieve success and that it is our time now as Caribbean artists to shine," said Parris.

One of the benefits to artists, she said, is an audition session where anyone can perform for industry heavyweights.

The Revolt Music Conference is the brainchild of Hip-Hop mogul Sean "Diddy' Comb.

The conference features four packages: the elite circle, inner circle, social circle and scholar circle (for students).

The conference will deal with topics such as Radio and Streaming, Public Relations, Going Indie and The Art of Making a Hit. Panellists include heavyweights such as Shakim Compere, CEO /President of Flavor Unit, Yvette Noel-Shure, EVP Media at Shure Media Group, Pusha T, President of G.O.O. D Music and Datwon Thomas, Editor in Chief of Vibe Magazine.

The conference takes place from Oct 12 to 15.
