Rio Claro teen in court for attempting to shoot relative
A 19-year-old man charged with common assault against his brother-in-law has been remanded into police custody after appearing before a Rio Claro Magistrate on Thursday.
Ricardo Ramnarine a labourer of Railway Road, Rio Claro, was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan.
The 29-year-old victim, also of Railway Road, Rio Claro, was at his home when a man he knew, entered and put a shotgun to his head. The suspect proceeded to pull the gun’s trigger three times, however, due to stoppage no shot was fired.
The suspect then fled the premises and the victim made a report to the Rio Claro Police Station.
While in transit with the officers, the victim identified his attacker who was walking along Brothers Road.
Ramnarine was arrested and subsequently charged as officers found and seized one homemade shotgun and one round of 12 gauge ammunition.
WPC Tarcia Gillead laid the charges.
The matter has been adjourned to April 16.
