Road closures, traffic diversions for Red House opening

Navigating in and around the capital city may pose a challenge to motorists and commuters alike as traffic restrictions will be in place for the reopening of the Red House on Friday.

Restrictions will remain in place for the duration of the day, taking effect at 6 am and ending at 5 pm.

Parking is prohibited along:

(a) St. Vincent Street. between Duke Street and Independence Square North;

(b) SackvIlle Street, between Richmond Street and St Vincent Street;

(c) Abercromby Street, between Independence Square North and Park Street;

(d) Knox Street. between St. Vincent Street and Frederick Street;

(e) Edward Street, between Independence Square North and Park Street

(f) Hart Street

(g) Duke Street, between Frederick Street and Edward Street;

(h) Pembroke Street, between Knox Street and Park Street;

(i) Henry Street, between Independence Square North and Park Street; and

(j) Queen Street, between Frederick Street and Edward Street.

Police Service and the Defence Force vehicles, however, may park on the eastern side of Edward Street, between Queen Street and Sackville Street.

Vehicular traffic is prohibited from 10 am to 5 pm on:

(a) St. Vincent Street, between Duke Street and Queen Street

(b) Hart Street;

(c) Abercromby Street, between Independence Square North and Park Street;

(d) Knox Street and

(e) Sackville Street. between Edward Street and St. Vincent Street

 

 

 

Traffic diversions are also in place. Drivers heading (a) east along Sackville Street, shall from 9 am to 5 pm turn North onto Edward Street; and (b) west along Duke Street, shall from 9 am to 5 pm turn south onto Frederick Street.

Taxi routes have also been affected by the Red House’s reopening. Taxi drivers on the St. Ann’s route from Hart Street, shall operate from the southern side of Queen Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street; and (b) the St. James route from Hart Street, shall operate from the northern side of Independence Square North, between Frederick Street and Henry Street.

Vehicles found illegally parked will be removed and impounded by police in accordance with section 108(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act.
