Robbery suspect shot by police
A 28-year-old man was shot by police Tuesday night after robbing a taxi-driver in Port of Spain.
The suspect is believed to be one of the men who robbed a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet in the capital city last week.
According to police reports, around 9:30pm on Tuesday, officers of the Inter Agency Task Force responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the Corner of Prince Street and Nelson Street.
Upon arriving, they observed two men accosting a taxi-driver.
One of the men was armed with what appeared to be a firearm.
The officers challenged the suspects, during which it was alleged that the armed man raised the weapon at the lawmen.
The officers then drew their licensed pistols and opened fire at the suspects.
Both men ran up along Nelson Street, however, one of the suspects collapsed.
The other man left his companion bleeding on the roadway and escaped.
The 28-year-old man was picked up by police and taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where, up to 6am Wednesday, he was said to be warded in a stable condition.
