Veteran bandleader Rosalind Gabriel is now on the board of the National Carnival Commission (NCC).

Gabriel received her letter of appointment on Thursday from Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.

The presentation was made at the Ministry’s Head Office at Level 20, Nicholas Tower, 63-65 Independence Square, Port-of-Spain.

Gabriel is a longstanding member of the carnival fraternity and current President of the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Bands Association (TTCBA). She is considered a local authority on Children’s Mas, having produced several children’s bands for more than four decades.

A release from the Ministry said Gabriel brought her expertise to the Ministry’s Mentoring by the Masters Programme in 2017, facilitating a programme on Children’s Mas.

Dr. Gadsby-Dolly congratulated Gabriel on her appointment and indicated that the Ministry looks forward to her ongoing contributions to this country’s carnival sector.

Gabriel expressed her gratitude and indicated that while the journey has not been an easy one for the TTCBA, she is hopeful that her appointment will unify the mas fraternity, reaffirming the old adage that “there is strength in numbers”.
