Runner dies after collapsing during Tobago race

A participant in the Sea to Sea Marathon event in Tobago has died.

Andy Phillip of Trincity collapsed while participating in the 10k this morning. 

He was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital where he passed away.

Marketing and Events consultant Kevon Mc Kenna told Loop that Phillip was accustomed running and was a fit person.  

He said Phillip, an operator at PCS Nitrogen Nutrien Trinidad in Point Lisas, collapsed almost to the end of the race near the Lambeau Fishing Depot.

"The Tobago International Sea to Sea Marathon Family wishes to express our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Andy Phillip. We are broken hearted at this time. He got called to run a bigger race this morning. We pray God's peace and comfort upon his wife and family at this time," the marathon organisers posted on Facebook. 

McKenna said the team is heartbroken over Phillip's death and there will be a moment of silence for Phillip at tomorrow's events.
