Saint Martin records first coronavirus death
Saint Martin has recorded its first coronavirus related death.
The Regional Health Agency for Guadeloupe (ARS) says one week after a public road accident, a 61-year-old Saint Martin resident patient presented with breathing distress at his home on March 25.
He was taken care of and moved to the emergency section of the Louis Constant Fleming hospital with respect to the protection of his health and health personnel in the context of being a suspected COVID-19 case.
Additional tests on the patient revealed complicated comorbidities as grounds for the consequences of his trauma.
The patient passed away on March 26 and a COVID-19 test returned positive on March 27.
ARS Guadeloupe says while death is multifactorial, COVID-19 was most likely a defining factor.
It says the investigation around this case is being carried out by Public Health France to identify contact cases.
Saint Martin has 18 confirmed coronavirus cases of which nine patients are hospitalised and two have recovered as of March 29.
