Samsung unveils Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus
Samsung on Wednesday launched the new phones at an Unpacked event in New York.
Among the new features is Samsung's new intelligent assistant, Bixby.
Samsung claims this assistant is a cut above Siri as it interacts better with your phone and your screen as well as recognise images and control smart home devices. Bixby is only currently available in Korea.
On the design side, the S8, according to DJ Koh, President Mobile Business, ushers in a new era without edges.
Both devices feature an infinity display with a higher screen to body ratio than ever before.
Perhaps the most obvious design change is the removal of the physical home key replaced with an invisible home key that responds to pressure.
With the two phones, Samsung has once again raised the game with a camera that utilises multi-frame image processing to deliver the best image.
To take better selfies and for video calling, the front-facing camera has been upgraded to an 8-megapixel camera and the main, rear-mounted camera will be a 12MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture similar to the Galaxy S7.
Bixby has been integrated inside the camera app, so you can select images in the viewfinder and Bixby will scan it and identify it.
Also included is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, next to the camera, and a face unlock feature.
The new devices will come in five colours.
No word yet on when they will be available in the Caribbean.
