Jamaica Tallawahs beat the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 41 runs to clinch a place in the play-offs of the Hero Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday night at Kingston.

Kumar Sangakarra’s 69 off 55 balls pushed the Tallawahs to 157/5, with Rovman Powell hitting form with 43 (26 balls).

Krishmar Santokie (3/10) and Oshane Thomas (3/31) were outstanding as the Tallawahs bowled out the Patriots for 116 in 17.5 overs.

Thomas was named Man of the Match after making the critical breakthrough, trapping Chris Gayle LBW for 0, third ball of the match.

The Jamaican pacer was praised by skipper Sangakarra and opposing captain Gayle.

“Credit must go to Oshane. He put us on the back foot straight away. There's no over-reliance on me and Evin. We still have match winners down the order. We have to set it up for them,” said Gayle after the match.

“Oshane Thomas gave us such a great start, getting the Universe Boss. Chris [Gayle] should get the credit for that, it was him who spotted and brought him in last year. Extra pace with control gives us a great edge,” said Sangakarra.

The Tallawahs skipper added that his team is looking for a big finish before they compete in the play-offs.

“We have one more really important game against a Guyana side that has really come back strongly in the tournament. We're looking to get into the top two,” said Sangakarra.

Summarized scores: Jamaica Tallawahs 157 for 5 (Sangakkara 69, Powell 43) beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 116 (Lewis 40, Santokie 3-10, Oshane 3-31) by 41 runs
