Sangre Grande man hospitalised after fighting back during robbery

A 52-year-old man is warded in a stable condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital after he was attacked by two men after trying to fight back during a home invasion.

According to police reports, the incident took place on Wednesday morning at the victim’s home along Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande.

Police were told that around 9.30 am the victim was at home when two men forced their way inside.

Both men were armed with cutlasses and had their faces covered. The men announced a hold-up and attempted to rob the victim.

However, the 52-year-old resisted.

He told police that he fought back and managed to disarm one of the assailants, however, the other assailant dealt him a chop to his arm, following which the 52-year-old was over-powered.

The assailants then stole a quantity of cash and valuables – including a stash of money which was estimated to be $48,000.

The assailants then made good their escape in a vehicle which was parked along Oropouche Road.

The injured man raised an alarm and was taken for medical treatment.

He is said to be in a stable condition at the hospital.
