Sankar yet to give statements on kidnapping
Krystiana Sankar has yet to give statements on her kidnapping.
The 24-year-old woman, who police described as the former stepdaughter of Minister Stuart Young, as she was the daughter of someone who Young was in a relationship with once, was kidnapped from her ex-boyfriend’s home in Diego Martin on Thursday night.
According to police reports, around 7.50 pm on Thursday, Sankar and six friends were at the Crystal Stream, Diego Martin home of her ex-boyfriend when a panel van pulled up alongside them.
Two men, one armed with a gun and the other with a cutlass, stormed the house and grabbed Sankar.
It is reported that as they were leaving, one of the kidnappers shouted, “We want $100,000 and five blocks of marijuana!” before they threw the 24-year-old into the van.
The police were notified and a team of officers from the Western Division and Port of Spain CID, supervised by Snr Sup Neville Sankar and Snr Sup Ajith Persad, responded. Their efforts were coordinated by acting Commissioner Harold Phillip.
A further ransom demand was made, which according to police, was then set at $200,000.
The police service said that only $167,000 was paid, in two parts, following which, Sankar was released.
Young has denied paying any ransom.
