Santa Cruz man held with loaded firearm
One man is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate after he was held with a loaded firearm.
The suspect, said to be from Santa Cruz, was arrested following a confrontation with police on Saturday afternoon.
According to police reports, officers of the Santa Cruz Police Station were conducting routine exercises in the area, when they received information about a group of men carrying firearms.
The officers made their way to Maraj Trace, where they observed a man.
On seeing the police, the suspect ran into a nearby house, and attempted to flee the scene.
The lawmen gave chase, and they were able to apprehend the suspect a short distance away.
A search of his person was conducted and the officers allegedly found and seized a Taurus Pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
As a result of the find, the suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
He was questioned and charged, and is due in court today.
This was the same exercise in which a quantity of illegal bullfinch birds were found and seized in a house in the area.
The exercise was spearheaded by Snr Sup Sagramsingh, and supervised by Cpl Ramkissoon, with assistance from PC Holder, PC Grieg, and PC Dwarika, among several others.
