Santa Cruz teen in court for common assault, gun and ammo possession
An 18-year-old from Santa Cruz, charged with common assault and possession of a firearm and ammunition is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Tuesday, to answer to the charges.
Akeel Ramadeen, 18, of Moraldo Trace, Santa Cruz, was arrested during an anti-crime exercise in Santa Cruz district, which took place between 5:30 pm and 10:15 pm last Friday.
While on mobile patrol along Moraldo Trace, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), observed a group of men liming. Upon seeing the officers, the men ran off and a chase ensued.
During the chase, one of the men pointed an object resembling a firearm at one of the officers. The officer drew his firearm and fired one shot at the suspect, resulting in him being injured.
The suspect was later found hiding in a bedroom of a nearby house, nursing a wound to his thigh.
One silver Smith and Wesson pistol, loaded with a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition, was found hidden in some bushes outside of the said house.
The suspect was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for medical attention and subsequently charged by PC Ryan Duncan of the NEDTF, on Monday.
