The Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT) in conjunction with The Ministry of Trade and Industry, the MIC Institute of Technology, and the Savile Row Academy invited guests to Sartorial Art, the renaissance of Caribbean bespoke tailoring at Castle Killarney, Port of Spain on March 9.

Showcasing modern and classic craftsmanship and skill, twenty-seven master tailors, trained in the secrets of Savile Row’s intricate techniques, presented their collection of business wear to a stunned audience. Each bespoke design, modelled by real customers, walked the warmly lit veranda of the castle for all guests to see. The packed show featured suits in luxurious fabrics hued in smart blues, greys, and classic blacks – a collection best-suited for modern wardrobes.

After the fashion show, guests mingled with the group of tailors in appreciation of the sartorial values highlighted in each design. The models wearing the bespoke suits also engaged with patrons eager to see and feel the styles up close in the FashionTT business meeting room – a special on-site location constructed for the one-on-one consultations with the tailors of their choice. Several customers were able to book appointments and private fittings while enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

“Sartorial Art is the highest level of customer service a Bespoke Master Tailor can offer," Savile Row Academy of Trinidad and Tobago, Professor Andrew Ramroop.

"Experienced Sartorialists are accomplished Designers who take your measurements and create a template of your figure. They are experts in cutting any style. They are Master Tailors with expertise in attaining world-class standards. A Bespoke expert will cut, fit and create an image. Whatever your purpose, your Sartorial Artist will elevate your wardrobe to a level never before experienced. Make an appointment for a consultancy today.”

“I am told that the class has already begun using the knowledge acquired from the Programme for the production of bespoke tailored suits and have generated sales in excess of $100,000," Minister of Trade and Industry, Senator The Hon. Paula Gopee-Scoon.

"Graduates of this Programme have developed a unique skills-set which will allow them to position themselves as highly skilled tailors and entrepreneurs capable of competing internationally. These new skills, once successfully applied, will increase not only the quality of items produced but also add value to the local fashion industry by increasing employment, revenue and foreign exchange earnings. As such, the added development of the industry by these new sartorial talents will contribute meaningfully to the diversification of the economy.”

“The student enrolment of 27 tailors would have undergone intensive training within this 40 week-course from its foundation module; pattern drafting module; straight through to trouser, waistcoat, and jacket making," said Chairman of the Board CreativeTT, Calvin Bijou.

"The graduates of this programme will be better equipped to tap into the international men’s wear market which is currently growing at a much faster rate than that of women’s wear, according to recent research. Growth in the sector would increase the contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product and as a result, the international consumer will have added confidence in our local products quality. In addition to increased sales volumes, the industry would have expanded the pool of local designers that have improved their level of competitiveness.

"Competitiveness on the international stage will then lead to an increased foreign exchange. Bearing these in mind, we at CreativeTT remain dedicated to our mandate to build capacity to meet international and local demand for creatives.”
