Scandinavian journalists were taken on a tour of Tobago to boost awareness of the island within the Scandinavian region.

The Tobago Tourism Agency said in a statement issued this week that the familiarization trip took place from January 24-18 as part of a series of activities designed to stimulate arrivals from that critical source market.

"The Scandinavian countries are the 3rd largest outbound travel market in Europe, with a record-high percentage of income spent on travelling. TTAL’s marketing tactics to secure increased arrivals from that region are geared toward creating a larger online footprint for Tobago, as Scandinavian tourists gather more information online than the average European tourist and over 60% book their vacations online," the agency said.

The agency said the three journalists were invited to "ensure that destination Tobago will be marketed extensively through online and offline editorial coverage of Tobago, targeting Scandinavian travellers looking for their new favourite destination. The articles will be published in well-known travel media in Norway and Denmark in the first quarter of 2020, positioning Tobago in the minds among travellers and travel trade".

TTAL Marketing Coordinator Ms. Sheena Des Vignes stated, “There’s a huge potential for increased bookings as our research indicated that Scandinavian tourists request and search destinations like Tobago, which offers its visitors beautiful and unspoilt quiet beaches, pristine rainforests to explore, tropical birds to discover, a superb destination for divers, and an authentic cultural heritage.

We carefully curated this fam trip’s five-day itinerary to provide an on-island experience that will inspire the travel journalists to create articles tailored to the Scandinavian travel market, which reinforce the 101 reasons and more to visit Tobago.”
