Schoolboy pleads guilty to possession of marijuana in bookbag
A 16-year-old student appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday on allegations of having marijuana in his school bag.
The student was arrested on Friday morning on his way to school.
He was said to be a fifth form student of the Hillview College, and when he was held, he allegedly told officers that he used the drugs to cope with the stress of studying.
The teenager was detained and the drugs were weighed and it came up to 5.4 grammes of marijuana.
The teenager, whose name must be withheld from the public due to his age, appeared before Senior Magistrate Joanne Connor.
He was represented by attorney Sharon Ramoutar and his father was said to be present during the proceeding. The young boy pleaded guilty to the offence at the first opportunity and was contrite to the court for having the drugs in his possession.
After further deliberations to the court, the matter was adjourned to March 14.
