A seven-year-old boy who mailed a birthday card to his dad “in heaven” has received a heart-warming reply from the Royal Mail letting him know that it was delivered safely.

Little Jase Hyndman, from West Lothian, who posted the card some weeks ago, received the letter informing him that the “particular important item of mail” was delivered, making it through the difficult journey.

In a post to her Facebook page, an emotional Teri Copland said her faith was restored in humanity by the Royal Mail’s kind gesture to her little boy.

“I actually cannot state how emotional he is knowing his dad got his card... you didn’t have to make the effort to do this you could have just ignored it but the fact that you have made the effort for a little boy you’ve never met is such a lovely thing to do.”

“Royal Mail you’ve just restored my faith in humanity,” she said.

The response “meant the world” to Jase, she added.

In response to Jase's letter, Royal Mail's Sean Milligan wrote: "I just wanted to take this opportunity to contact you about how we succeeded in the delivery of your letter, to your dad in heaven.

"This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects on route to heaven," the response read.

"I will continue to do all I can to ensure delivery to heaven safely," the letter concluded.

Jase and his 10-year-old sister Neive mark the occasion of their father's birthday each year since he passed away in May 2014.

Copland said she was comforted and grateful for the small gesture of kindness.

"I want people to realise that a small gesture of kindness can have such a fantastic impact on someone's life... Royal Mail actually took part and that gives me so much comfort."
