SEA 2019: South schools top SEA

This year's top SEA performer is from the Grant Memorial Presbyterian Primary School in San Fernando.

Siri Vadlamudi scored 266.259 as her total standard score, topping the 2019 SEA exam.

She passed for her first choice, Naparima Girls' High School, San Fernando.

Education Minister Anthony Garcia made the announcement at the school this morning. The Minister also revealed that this year's top three performing schools are all in South Trinidad.

Siri, who has aspirations of becoming a doctor, thanked God, her teachers and her parents for her success. 

Delivering remarks, Chief Education Officer Harrilal Seecharan addressed concerns over this year's mathematics exam being too difficult, saying that T&T's children are capable and can compete with other students globally.

Also speaking before the announcement was San Fernando East MP Randall Mitchell who said he was proud to be a San Fernandian.

"Today makes me feel proud to be a born and bred San Fernandian. Today you make me proud, I am extremely proud. Parents, I don’t know what you have gone through but I know I have to go through it in two years."

San Fernando West MP Faris Al-Rawi, himself a Grant Memorial alum recalled his experience and offered words of advice to students.

“Whatever the results are, celebrate the results. Remember life is a journey, have faith in yourself and the life ahead of you.

Meanwhile, San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello urged the students to continue to make the city of San Fernando proud and keep San Fernando on top.

Update @ 11 am: The second top SEA student has been named.

She is Megan Ramoutar from the Trinidad Muslim League Primary School, San Fernando. 

She passed for her first choice, St Joseph's Convent, San Fernando.  

Update @ 11:41 am: A male student is the third top SEA performer.

Manasseh Mohammed, from the Canaan Presbyterian Primary School, will attend Naparima College, San Fernando in September. 

Meanwhile, in results from Tobago: 1st place - Sebastian Rampersad from Bucco Government 

2nd place - Daniella Taylor from Bethesda Government

3rd place - Achilles Melville from Signal Hill Government

All three students will attend Bishop High School in September.
