Sea Lots resident, second charged with stomping death of Arima man

The second accused in the stomping death of Akeno Thomas, 36, which was captured on surveillance cameras and later circulated on social media, appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate charged with murder.
Adio Mustapha Smith, 30, also known as Gecco of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots, appeared in the Tunapuna 1st Magistrates’ Court before Indrani Cedeno on Friday.
The matter was adjourned to August 14.
On July 27, Thomas of Lackpat Road, El Dorado, was at Pentecostal Road, El Dorado around 9:15pm when he was shot at by two gunmen.
He was hit in the thigh which caused him to fall into a nearby drain. One of the assailants then jumped into the drain and proceeded to stomp on the victim’s head and body.
Thomas was taken to hospital where he died on July 28.
Smith was charged by Corporal Shawn Jones of Homicide Region 2, on August 10 after advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard one day prior.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Kareem Richardson was the first to be charged with Thomas' murder.
Richardson, of Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain, was also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, after advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, Friday, August 4.
