Security officer found bound, dead on boat
A 32-year-old man was found dead in a boat anchored in the waters off Port of Spain on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as security officer, Patrick Ferdinand, of Vineyard Road, Carenage.
Around 6:30 am on Thursday, another security officer arrived at the vessel – named Shouter B – on which Ferdinand had been working the night shift, to relieve him of his duties.
However, Ferdinand was nowhere in sight.
Concerned for his colleague, the officer notified customs officials and police.
When further checks were made, Ferdinand’s body was found on the southern side of the vessel in an area known as the tween deck.
There appeared to be a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth and his hands were bound with a length of rope and tie straps were found near the body.
A wound was observed on Ferdinand’s right hand and on the back of his head.
One live round of 9mm ammunition was found.
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death and is expected to take place today at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
