Septic waste at back of Milton Presbyterian School forces closure

The Ministry of Education is seeking to advise the public that the Milton Presbyterian Primary School has been closed by officials of the Public Health Department.

This was revealed via statement issued on Thursday.

According to the release, the Public Health Department indicated that septic waste together with general waste from neighbours on the eastern side of the school was being emptied at the back of the educational compound.

The statement noted that the Milton Presbyterian Primary School is in no way affected by any issues with the school’s infrastructure or on the school compound.

However, the matter involving waste is cause for concern.

“Currently, it is not safe to have staff or students occupy the building as it is unhealthy to be exposed to the unsanitary environment around the school.”

The release said the Ministry of Education and officials from the Public Health Department are moving with urgency to have this matter rectified to ensure students and teachers return to a clean environment and into the classroom in the shortest possible time frame.

A subsequent update will be given when work around the school is completed and the compound can be occupied.
