Seven arrested in weekend exercises in Arima, Arouca

Seven people have been arrested and a firearm along with quantities of ammunition and narcotics seized, following block eradication exercises on Saturday in Northern Division Task Force.

The exercises were carried out in Arima, Arouca, Five Rivers and Dinsley Village.

The lawmen were conducting a search of a known drug block on Jitman Drive, Five Rivers, when they saw a man on the side of the roadway acting suspiciously.

When they searched him, the officers found a Glock Gen3 40-calibre pistol with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition.

He was arrested along with six other people who were found to be in possession of varying amounts of cocaine and marijuana during the exercises.

In a separate exercise, officers went to a bushy area in Garden Village, Arouca, where they found a homemade shotgun and 39 rounds of 12-Gauge ammunition, hidden in a white plastic bag. Investigations are ongoing.
