Seven held after shootout with police

Seven people between the ages of 18 and 35, are currently in police custody following a confrontation with police on Sunday.

The incident, LoopTT was told, resulted in a shootout between police and one of the members of the group.

According to police reports, arround 2:45 am on Sunday, officers received information of men armed with firearms at Bholai Trace, Chase Village.

Upon arrival a group of men were observed standing on the roadway.

The officers confronted the group, however, two of the men attempted to flee the scene by running in a northerly direction along the road.

Two policemen gave chase, while the others stayed with the group.

During the chase, one suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers and fired several shots.

The officers returned fire, however, the armed suspect managed to escape.

The second man was captured.

An extended magazine with 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition was found. C.S.I visited the scene along with officers of the Freeport C.I.D.
