Shadow’s son accepts honorary degree on his behalf

Sharlan Bailey, son of veteran calypsonian Winston Bailey collected his father’s honorary degree at a graduation ceremony on Saturday at the UWI St. Augustine Campus.

Bailey, who was also known as the Mighty Shadow suffered a stroke on Sunday and died at hospital on Tuesday, days before he was scheduled to receive the degree from the university.

The younger Bailey accepted the honorary degree on his father’s behalf and performed his father’s 1982 classic, “One Love” at the graduation ceremony on Saturday.

Shadow’s funeral will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

There will be a public viewing for his body from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Mighty Shadow was known for his hit songs, You Looking for Horn, Dingolay, Bassman, Tension and Stranger among others.
