Shot in the back: Police investigating cricket umpire's murder

An autopsy has confirmed that 38-year-old Carlton Best was murdered.

Best’s body was found near Aranjuez Circular on Wednesday morning.

It was identified by relatives the following day, and on Friday, an autopsy was performed which confirmed that Best died from a gunshot injury to his back.

Police believe that Best, who was a cricket umpire, was killed during a robbery gone wrong.

He was last seen alive at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, leaving Sangre Grande with his car.

His vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, has not been recovered.

A woman who was allegedly in the vehicle at the time of the robbery is currently aiding police with inquiries.

She told officers that the robbers released her near the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business on Wednesday morning.

She was not hurt and later made a report to the St Joseph Police Station.

Homicide officials are continuing inquiries.

More on this as it becomes available.
