Siparia man charged for rape of developmentally-challenged woman

A 54-year-old year old Siparia man is expected to appear in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court today, charged with rape and grievous sexual assault of a 25-year-old developmentally-challenged woman.

Andy Joseph, of Syne Village, Siparia, has been charged with one count of rape and two counts of grievous sexual assault against the woman.

Joseph was charged by officers attached to the Siparia Criminal Investigations Department (CID), on Sunday.

The charges arose from incidents which allegedly occurred at the victim’s home, sometime between February and October, 2018.

A report was subsequently made at the Siparia Police Station by the victim’s mother last Friday, which led to Joseph being charged in connection with the incident.
