Sir Andrew Ramroop launches FAME

FAME (Foundation for Fashion, Apparel, Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship) Caribbean will be launched at the National Academy of Performing Art (NAPA) today, Saturday, November 25 at 7 pm with a spectacular fashion showcase and theatrical production entitled ON STAGE.

FAME Caribbean is the brainchild of Andrew Ramroop, Order of the British Empire, Trinidad-born master artist tailor. He founded the prestigious Savile Row Academy of tailoring in London, and after 50 years of expert quality and recognition internationally, he saw it necessary to use his influence to give Caribbean designers an opportunity to sell high-quality garments on a global market.

Ramroop will also lead the recently established, Certificate Programme in Ultra Bespoke Tailoring, which is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, FashionTT, and the MIC Institute of Technology.

In its initial year, FAME aims to brand Caribbean style and present it to the internationally, through select local and regional designers, while positioning Trinidad and Tobago, as the epicentre of the regional fashion industry.

This platform would set in motion an acknowledgement that there is a Caribbean aesthetic and put in place the mobilizing of export-worthy apparel, the lure for innovative fashion wares and the sales positioning of
niche-market style options, all for the global fashion stage/market.

Richard Young, creative director of FAME has the responsibility of harnessing signature
brands and incorporating them within the feature for this inaugural showcase.

A fundamental focus of FAME Caribbean 2K17 is to give back to socio-economic development and address youth empowerment to ensure more holistic life chance for future generations.

Part proceeds from ON STAGE will be given to the Hibiscus Foundation for HIV/AIDS care.

The presentation would display capsule collections from thirty designers which include -
Shaun Griffith Perez , Ecliff Elie, Heather Jones, Dominique La Roche, The Cloth, Zadd and Eastman, J'Angelique, Charu Lochan Dass, Lynda Osborne, Mahogany Stuff, the House of Jaipur, Shurnel Oliviere, Saleem Samuel, Marlon 'DAWW'George, Rhion Romany, Naballah Chi, Harvey Robertson, Adrian Wilson, Christian Boucaud, Gabriella Mc Millan, Casey Frith Daniel. Regional Designers, Calvin Southwell, Rick Bailey, Esther Joseph, John Shazi Chalon, Miranda Askie, and Ezekiel Bailey will also be joining the line-up.

FAME is collaborating with Caribbean Airlines, Saint International Jamaica Ltd, Caribbean
News Media Group, Rent-a-Amp, and NAPA to make this event possible.
