Sisters allegedly raped in San Juan; two men held

Two men are said to be in police custody on allegations of sexual assault after two sisters were allegedly raped after boarding a taxi from Port of Spain last week.

According to reports, the men were arrested on Saturday after they allegedly assaulted two sisters, aged 29 and 16.

The sisters entered a vehicle along the Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain, at about 7:00 pm on Friday evening.

In the vehicle were two men known to them.

The women were taken to a home in San Juan where they were allegedly sexually assaulted.

During the course of the night, however, the women were able to escape while the two assailants were asleep.

They made their way to the San Juan Police Station where they made a report.

A team of officers visited the location given to them and detained the two men.

The women were then sent to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex to be examined.

The men, both said to be in their early 20’s, were in custody up to Wednesday morning.

Charges, sources said, are expected to be laid by Friday.

More on this as it becomes available.
