Brathwaite conceded only three runs in the final over to win the match for the SKN Patriots

Brathwaite conceded only three runs in the final over to win the match for the SKN Patriots

Guyana Amazon Warriors lost three wickets in the last over to suffer a demoralizing four run loss to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Hero Caribbean Premier League on Sunday at Lauderdale.

Chasing seven for victory, Rayad Emrit and Sohail Tanvir perished via the run-out route, while Gajanand Singh was clean bowled during Carlos Brathwaite’s eventful last over.

Rashid Khan failed to score off the last ball, leaving Guyana Amazon Warriors four runs short of victory.

Earlier, Chris Gayle hit 66 not out off 55 balls to bring respectability to the Patriots score of 132/3.

Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and put the Patriots in, ushering in the destructive pairing of Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis.

Lewis and Mohammed Hafeez went cheaply, bringing Brandon King in to Join Gayle.

King struck a brace of fours and sixes in his 39 off 35 balls, while Gayle brought up the slowest half-century of his T20 career (43 balls).

The Patriots posted 132/3, with only Steven Jacobs (1/22) credited with taking a wicket.

St Kitts and Nevis also had a poor start with Chadwick Walton (10) and Steven Taylor (2) falling cheaply.

Babar Azam and Jason Mohammed provided the impetus the innings needed with 55 runs off 47 balls.

Azam (21) became Mohammed Nabi’s first wicket in the Hero CPL, and the first wicket to fall to an Afghanistan player in CPL history.

Mohammed (41) went to a stunning catch by Fabian Allen.

The substitute ran for almost 20 meters before diving to his left to take one of the catches of the year.

Amazon Warriors needed eight off the final over with five wickets in hand and Singh on 28.

However, Devon Thomas produced direct hits to run out Emrit and Tanvir during Brathwaite’s last over, who disturbed Singh’s stumps between the run outs.

Amazon Warriors now needed a four off the last ball to force a super over.

However, Rashid couldn't get bat on Brathwaite's full last delivery.

Summarized scores: SKN Patriots 132 for 3 (Gayle 66*, King 39) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 128 for 8 (Mohammed 41, Singh 28, Cottrell 2-28) by four runs
