Social Development Ministry denies staff layoffs
The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services is denying reports that it has dismissed staff.
This follows a story carried by CNC3 which noted that around 10:30 pm on Monday, heads of various departments were informed that there was no approval for short-term staff to report for work.
According to CNC3, employees received Whatsapp messages advising that their services were no longer required.
In response, the Ministry said staff were not fired as their contracts expired on March 31.
"On March 31, 2018 the short-term contracts of a number of employees expired and they exited the organization via natural attrition."
The Ministry said it is currently reviewing its organizational structure, keeping with its mandate and new strategic direction to ensure alignment.
"The restructuring exercise includes the identification of the organization’s human resource needs in the short, medium and long-term. Persons are therefore being recruited and retained in keeping with our identified needs."
The statement added that the Ministry will continue to exercise the available option of offering new short-term contracts, as necessary, in order to ensure the provision of efficient and effective service to all clients and stakeholders.
