Soldier charged with murder of daughter
A 29-year-old corporal of the Defence Force is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today, in connection with the murder of his daughter – two-year-old Soriah Martin.
The accused, Kerros Martin, 29, is already before the courts on allegations of wounding with intent 63-year-old Gregory Harracksingh.
He appeared before the same magistracy on January 4 this year, and was placed on bail of $75,000.
However, he was re-arrested earlier this week, and was charged by Inspector Ken Lutchman from the Sangre Grande Police Station, following instructions from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The incident was said to have taken place at the family’s home on December 12, 2017, when he got into an argument with a man, about the toddler.
During the altercation, the man pulled out a firearm and shot at the victim, who was holding the infant in his arms at the time. The victim was hit in his elbow and taken to hospital. The child was also hit and died at the scene.
