A member of the T&T Defence Force is expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate today on charges of drunk driving and driving illegally on the Priority Bus Route.

The soldier was held on Wednesday night during an exercise by officers of the Port of Spain Division led by Snr Sup Moore and Sup Ramjohn.

The operation took place between 3pm and 11pm along the Priority Bus Route along Beetham Gardens.

When the soldier’s vehicle was stopped, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol.

He was administered a breathalyser test that gave a reading of 106 microgrammes per 100 millilitre of breath –more than 70 microgrammes over the legal limit. He was immediately taken into custody.

Nine other people were ticketed for driving on the bus route illegally, while eight were ticketed for failing to wear a mask/covering over their face in public contrary to the Public Health Ordinance.

The operation also included Sup Khan, Insp Seepersad, Sgt Bharath, Cpl Guerra, and Cpl Ramjattan, among others.
