Soldier in custody for assault, arson
The 57-year-old man who was arrested on Wednesday night on allegations of assault and arson is now in the custody of the TT Defence Force.
The man, who is a soldier, is expected to be kept in solitary confinement at the Teteron Barracks until the police investigation is completed.
Last Wednesday, Maracas Bay Police were called in to quell a disturbance at the St Michael's Village, Las Cuevas, home of the soldier.
According to police reports, around 8 pm that day, the 57-year-old man got into fight with his 53-year-old wife and 17-year-old daughter, in which he allegedly struck them.
When police arrived at the scene, the soldier was not to be found, having fled the location.
The two women were taken for medical treatment by the responding officers, but while they were away from the home, the building caught fire and was destroyed.
A manhunt was launched for the soldier, and he was found near Maracas Bay some hours later.
