Sport Minister congratulates Trinbago Knight Riders on CPL win
Sport Minister Darryl Smith has sought to congratulate the entire Trinbago Knight Riders team on their win for the 2017 Caribbean Premiere League.
In a statement from the Sport Ministry on Monday, Smith noted that he was happy that the success in the tournament occurred at the recently opened Brian Lara Cricket Academy soon after T&T celebrated its 55th Independence Anniversary.
The Sport Minister acknowledged that Sport Ambassador and cricket legend Brian Lara played an integral role in assisting in the negotiation process to host the finals here.
He said Lara’s technical expertise was appreciated.
Smith further congratulated CPL for hosting “a fantastic tournament” and for allowing the 2017 edition of the final to be held in T&T.
He further noted that the opportunity to host the event was in keeping with the Government’s thrust towards Sport Tourism.
“In 2017 we have hosted the most international sporting events at the highest level on a tight budget. This year continues to be our most successful year in sport. Let us continue to make monumental memories at this facility,” he said.
Minister Smith further thanked Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Cabinet members for approving and supporting the 2017 CPL finals at the BLCA. He thanked the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Sportt, Udecott, Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, Queens Park Cricket Club and sponsors for their support. The Sport Minister ended by thanking the people of Trinidad and Tobago that came out in their thousands on Saturday night in support of the team.
