SRP granted $20K bail for stealing $500
A Special Reserve Police Constable with five years’ service was granted $20,000 bail with surety after appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate last Wednesday, charged with misbehaviour in public office and larceny of $500.
25-year-old PC Hebron Ryan of Jackson Street, Curepe, appeared before Cheron Raphael in the 11th Magistrates’ Court.
Police say CCTV footage captured a man entering the property room of the Besson Street Police Station, removing a quantity of money from the exhibit cabinet and placing it in his boots before leaving.
The incident allegedly occurred on October 12, 2017.
Since then, PC Ryan who was last attached to the station failed to report for duty and attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
The accused was arrested by PC Ralph Rampersad of the Professional Standards Bureau on March 12 following advice from State Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Tricia Hudlin-Cooper.
The matter was adjourned to April 11.
