SRP officer allegedly shoots at police

A suspended Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer is currently in police custody after he allegedly shot at a team of officers from the Emergency Response Patrol Unit.

The suspect was detained at about 9.20 pm on Sunday near the recreation grounds at KP Lands, Valencia.

According to police reports, PC Baptiste, WPC Yorker, PC Lindsey, PC James, and PC John, were on mobile patrol when they were stopped by two men.

They were informed that someone was in the area with a gun and had threatened to kill them.

The officers responded and they went a short distance to the suspect.

While approaching the suspect, the officers said they saw the man pull out a weapon, and shot at them twice.

The officers took cover and returned fire.

The SRP officer dropped his gun and surrendered.

No one was injured.

A loaded Walter Pistol was seized from the scene.

The SRP officer, LoopTT was told, is currently on suspension as he has a matter before the courts.
