SRP officer detained after confessing to sexual assault

A Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer who confessed to sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman and is being investigated by the police. 

The officer reportedly surrendered himself at the Couva Police Station on Saturday morning.

According to police reports, the officer was rostered to work that day, however, it was said that he did not report for duty but instead made his way to a popular club along the Southern Main Road, Couva.

While there, he picked up a 20-year-old girl he had met.

It was said that he allegedly took the girl to an unknown location, where he sexually assaulted the woman.

He then dropped the woman off at a safe location.

However, the officer allegedly became aware of the seriousness of what had occurred and made his way to the Couva Police Station where he confessed what transpired before the victim even arrived at the station.

The 20-year-old victim eventually came to the station and gave a similar report, and she was taken to the Couva District Health Facility where she was medically examined.
