St Kitts and Nevis manufacturing sector registered a very strong performance in 2019.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris.

During a press conference on Wednesday, he shared figures from the St Christophe Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) which he said, points to an increase in manufacturing exports.

“We recorded 69,695 tons of merchandise, up 43,786 tons over the 25,909 tons realized in 2018 for a massive 169 percent growth in manufacturing exports year on year,” he said.

There was also a marked increase in employment numbers, which according to PM Harris could be attributed to the expansion of production lines at Kajola Kristada Ltd. He said the number of workers grew from 115 to 222.

At present, the St Kitts and Nevis manufacturing sector hires 1084 persons.

The Prime Minister said he is proud of the skilled and industrious employees of the manufacturing sector.

He said the industry’s positive growth is expected to continue this year.
