Stepdad slapped with five counts of sexual penetration of girl, 11

A stepfather is expected to face the courts after he was charged with the sexual assault of a female minor.

The 36-year-old labourer was charged by officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) on Saturday with five counts of sexual penetration with familial relations.

According to reports, the child, who is now 11-years-old, confided in a teacher that she was sexually abused by her stepfather from the age of six.

The matter was reported to the police, and the CPU began inquiries.

The child was interviewed and medically examined.

Investigations unearthed that her stepfather, who she resided with from the age of three, began sexually assaulting in September 2015.

The abuse only stopped in September 2018, when the child's mother and the man separated.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged.

He expected to appear before the Sangre Grande Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The investigations were spearheaded by W/Supt Natasha George, ASP Sookdeo and Inspector Bain-Keller.
