'Strange' weather in Rousillac blew off at least 5 roofs

Chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh says heavy showers and gusty winds blew off at least five roofs in Rousillac.

The strange weather pattern, as described by Dr Ramadharsingh, occurred just after 4 pm on Tuesday.

He said the corporation is still receiving reports of damage to some areas.

The Councillor added that steps will be taken to approach the Ministry of Social Development to assist those affected.

"These winds were so strong that they were able to blow out at least five roofs of persons in the area and we continue to receive reports of damage in about five others. So that the Disaster Management Unit has been activated and they're out on the beat together with the Councillor Chandra Ramadharsingh and other members of the community, volunteers, CEPEP etcetera, trying to assist and as we get more information we will be in a state of readiness to try and see what we can do to get the other agencies, self-help and the Ministry of Social Development involved to assist the persons in these communities."
