Stuart Young: Threats to prison, police officers will be neutralised
National Security Minister Stuart Young is condemning threats made to prison officers, warning those responsible that necessary action will be taken.
Young issued a statement on Tuesday night, saying that it has come to his attention that there is a document in circulation, purporting to be a confidential report authored by the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) which references possible threats to prison officers.
He said these threats are unacceptable and will be addressed.
"Anyone found threatening any officer in any of the services under National Security will be dealt with by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service as appropriate. Such illegal actions will not be tolerated and any perpetrators will face the full brunt of the law."
He said he has spoken to both Acting Prisons Commissioner Dane Clarke and Police Commissioner Gary Griffith about the content of this report.
According to the Minister, strategic plans are being put in place to neutralise the threat.
"Threats of violence to any Prison Officer or any officer attached to any of the services under the Ministry of National Security will not be tolerated.I have asked that an inter-agency approach be deployed to deal with this incident. This is being treated as a priority and resources are being deployed to deal with the threat."
