Suruj wants investigation into THA 'squandermania'
Former Works and Transport Minister, Suruj Rambachan, is demanding a thorough investigation into the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) spending $3 million dollars to replace tiles around the Scarborough RC School.
This occurred just five months after the $85 million facility was completed.
Rambachan says the newspaper report which quoted THA Chief Administrator Raye Sandy defending the “reputable contractor” is “outrageous”.
He says this amount of wastage is unacceptable adding that someone must be held accountable.
“It is a tragedy of great proportions when the THA can just dismiss this costly mistake and not apportion blame nor seek redress.”
Rambachan also criticised the THA for mishandling funds in the past.
“For far to long the THA has been Practicing poor project and financial Management with costs escalating on Major projects in Tobago. The cost overruns have been phenomenal whether it be the Library or the Financial Complex. The THA continues to act with little regard for efficiency and cost effectiveness guaranteed as they are a constitutional percentage of the National Budget.”
The Opposition MP says it is unfair for taxpayers to bear the brunt of this “squandermania”.
